"Study: Sicilian Food Truck" Giclée Print
Created for Danilo Orofino and his beloved Italian restaurant in Fredericksburg, Virginia, this work is steeped in the warmth of Sicily...where Danilo grew up and where his roots run deep. I wanted to capture not just the colors of the island, but the slow rhythm of a morning before the day truly begins.
A wintergreen farm truck, its bed overflowing with gleaming red tomatoes, violet cauliflower, and massive artichokes, is parked on a quiet side street. Hand-painted signs, written in Italian, list the prices for each vegetable...an irresistible display of abundance. Beside the truck, a small red chair waits, flanked by a few weathered crates. Their owner, the farmer, has wandered around the corner to his favorite café for an espresso, knowing he has a few moments before the early shoppers arrive. Those crates will soon serve double duty...holding his coffee as he chats with regulars and weighing vegetables for new customers.
He’s chosen this street with care. It draws just enough foot traffic to keep him busy, without the chaos of the main market. Loyal customers come here deliberately, bypassing the crowds to find him, while lucky tourists who stumble upon his stall often leave not only with produce, but with dinner plans inspired by their haul.
Against the warm stucco wall nearby, a sweet lemon tree leans into the scene. Scrawled beside it in spray paint is the Sicilian phrase futtitini—“don’t worry about it” or “forget about it”—a reminder to savor the moment, to take life as it comes.
